In a nail-biting match that had fans on the edge of their seats, Wheatland-Grinnell High School edged past Rawlins County with a 3-2 victory on Monday, September 11, 2023. Hosted at Wheatland-Grinnell High School and with a buzzing crowd of 1,000 spectators, the game truly reflected the prowess of two of Alabama's leading high school volleyball teams.
Despite starting strong with a 25-22 set win, Wheatland-Grinnell faced fierce competition as Rawlins County retaliated, securing the second set 25-23. However, Wheatland-Grinnell did not lose their momentum, clinching the third set 25-23. Rawlins County was not far behind, bagging the fourth set 25-22. But the final and decisive set witnessed Wheatland-Grinnell emerge victorious with a close 15-13 score.
The spotlight shone brightly on two exceptional players. Aaliyah White from Wheatland-Grinnell stood out with a stellar performance of 25 kills, earning her the title of game's MVP. On the opposing side, Rawlins County's Riley Smith was not to be overshadowed, racking up an impressive 20 kills.
